Most individuals view a church as a building. However, after speaking to Tammy Wynn, the New Beginning Christian Church can be defined as “the people who attend it”. At the side of Paster Campbell, Tammy is moving projects ahead that are changing lives in our local community one person at a time.
One of the numerous projects Tammy is overseeing at New Beginning Christian Church is helping our community to increase affordable housing. The Church is implementing this by building affordable housing on church grounds in Castle Haynes. Pastor Campbell’s 18-year vision is becoming a reality. Over the past year, housing prices have increased close to 10%, thereby leaving many families and individuals with facing housing insecurity. The construction will start next year. Pastor Campbell states, “We can’t just build great buildings, but we’ve got to help build the community.”
Furthermore, the New Beginning Christian Church has joined the Healthy Opportunities Pilot, known as HOP, to expand their community outreach. The HOP is an innovative new approach to test and evaluate non-medical interventions related to housing, food, transportation, and interpersonal safety and toxic stress to eligible Medicaid enrollees. This Medicaid pilot program was developed by North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) with a goal to improve health by investing in evidence-based interventions before health becomes an issue.
It takes a community to take care of our community members. The New Beginning Christian Church is a shining example of one having a vision and implementing it into action. The New Beginnings Christian Church actually does “say what they mean and mean what they say”.
